Explosive Devices, (IEDs, referred to at the time at torpedoes) were used
to sink dozens of Federal warships, including at least seven Federal
ironclads. Many of those torpedoes were detonated with electric batteries.

Federal ships and the Virginia. In reality, there were 6 Confederate ships.
3 were lightly damaged, including the Virginia. There were around 20
Federal ships. The Cumberland, Congress, Pendulum, and Whitehall were sunk
or would sink from damage (Whitehall) after the battle. The Zouave, Dragon,
Cambridge, St. Lawrence, Minnesota, and Monitor were damaged. Zouave and
Dragon were totally disabled.
