David Craft: do the 308 heads happen to be like summit square ports. which are the same as dart iron eagles? my curiosity comes from the fact that I have summit 308 cc runner heads and I have been debating over whether or not it would be worth it to build a 496 when my crap come apart again, my other options would be to maybe do like roller cam or maybe some higher end heads like brodix or afr. also do you have a roller cam I would suspect so with such big power especially at the lower end
Rob Price: Does this engine have forged internals
Dosalt: 100 - 200 hp is more than enough. I want big torque numbers. has to run on gasoline and not dirty diesel.
cncmotorsports: 100 HP?
Dosalt: I want one with around 100 hp and 600 Tq. I was wondering if it was possible
SportModDriver88: I love those torque numbers! I'm about to start buildnig a 496 for my boat and am looking for a similar setup but with an oval port head and maybe a bit less cam but a hydraulic roller. I'd really like to hit 500 ft/lbs torque at about 2500-3000 rpms. Any camshaft grinds for this keeping in mind wet exhaust so reversion is an issue? Thanks!
BigChevyFTW: Tha thing sounds like its starving for fuel and in need of a serious advance!
Buba Loui: Cudo's for Dart heads.
cncmotorsports: The customer had a budget, and already had iron heads.
Buba Loui: Why Iron heads? Wouldn't you have made more power with a set of aluminum heads?
Give us a call 800-341-1528 or 605-692-1697 we can get you set up with a good cam for your combination.
vertrider75: i'm in the process of building a 496 rite now any reccomidations on cam?
The camshaft was a hydraulic roller, it was one of our custom grinds.
Hydraulic roller cam is what we used. You can make good HP numbers with out the need of huge durations numbers with the hydraulic roller cam. Keep's the engine very very drivable for the customer.
Cleelopez: Nice.. Did you go solid.. Hydr roller m,flat tappets.. ? I just had similar numbers with the motor I had built... I went hydr flat tappets.. My first attempt.. But I wonder how long the cam will hold up.. Now it's done and feel I should have went hydr roller for the extra 400$
grumpy159: This motor went into my '79 Chev short box - this is the second engine CNC has done for me - previously they built a 421 SBC stroker for my Boss Hoss bike - this BB is a tire shredder!!! With 3.25 gears, 33X21.50X15 MT on the back - it smokes them at 30mph - from a stop - smokes them them trhough 1st and 2nd and a nice chirp into 3rd-----awesome motor. And like my 421 SB, it is tight, dry, smooth and is a daily driver - best of all - it runs on 91 octane all day long :)
