Patty lovinglife: This is my problem. It has happened 5 times while driving vehicle. I want
to make sure it is FUEL PUMP. 2000 Olds Alero 3.4 V6 engine car starts
and drives but cuts off automatically after driving for a bit. When it cuts
off, the engine will not turn over. I have to wait an hour comeback and it
starts back up. Again starts up great every morning, but cuts out while
driving after a few miles. I have not driven far because of this reason.
FUEL PUMP GOING BAD?
MysticInvestigations: I got a free fuel pump once because the place I took it to assigned it to a
young mechanic who determined that was the issue. When the car still
wouldn't work right it ended up being some error with the computer that was
easily re-programmed. I wonder if that guy lost his job. LOL!
Patty lovinglife: A bad injector going short to ground can cause the injector driver to
overheat, causing engine to cut off. Won't restart until driver cools.
Suggest ohming injectors for equal value somewhere between 12 to 16 and not
to vary more than .5.
This looks like my problem!
Adam Lenning: I had to replace my fuel pump in my 2002 Alero and it is really as easy as
he makes it look. Took me less than an hout on the ground to drop the
tank, change the pump and reinstall it. Been running for over a year now.
30k later lol
Jesse R: Thanks for the video i will have to replace the pump but this will get me
through... i hope :P
Oscar Rodriguez: This is the closest video i've been able to come up with, for what i have
to do in my Alero.
Richard Pearce: Will it fit a 99 cadillac sts seville
Ryan Moore: Can you do work on 340 engine alero?
DeZ Porch: hi, I have a 2000 alero it turns over like it wants to crank but I do not
think its catching gas do you think it is the filter needs to be cleaned or
a new fuel pump. Please help!
Airtex Pumps: Unfortunately, it's difficult for us to give an estimate as labor rates and
install times vary drastically from shop to shop.
grey castle: about how much is it to have the fuel pump replaced, it just seems more
work than I can do
jnbrown2011: My 2002 oldsmobile alero will start (turn over) but will not say on? What
could it be? I can hear the fuel pump and when i put gas in the corporator
it starts and turns back on... Can you please let me know what is wrong...
Airtex Pumps: If you are having starting issues a good place to start is to install a new
fuel filter. If that does not fix the issue then you will need to check the
fuel pressure to see if it is within specs. The pressure specs for this
vehicle are anywhere from 52-58 psi. This will help determine if you have a
fuel system problem or if the issue is in another system. If you need
further assistance, don't hesitate to call our free Tech Line:

Airtex Pumps: Hello, the first thing to do is to check the fuel pressure. If your car has
a 2.2L then the spec is 50-60 psi & 3.5L the spec is 52-59. Both are Key
on/Engine off specs. This will tell if there is a fuel pressure problem or
if the problem lies somewhere else. If you need more help, don't hesitate
to call our free tech line: 800-424-7839 and one or techs can walk you
through the diagnosis. Thanks.
HBlatz87: These videos are great for people who happen to have a vehicle lift in
their garage. lol Appreciate it nonetheless, but doing this on your back
must really suck.
Airtex Pumps: If after replacing the fuel pump the gauge quit working, you should check
the wiring harness to make sure it is in good order & check the ground to
make sure it was not damaged/loosened during the installation. If all of
those check out then you may have to remove the unit from the tank to see
if the float arm is hanging up on something or if there is an issue with
the sender assembly. If you need more help once you get started, please
feel free to call our free tech line: 800.424.7839. Thanks.
MTXRooster: Is there any other way besides the pressure check to determine whether the
fuel pump is faulty? (for those without access to said pressure checker)
Airtex Pumps: Unfortunately no. Diagnostics start with a pressure check. If pressure is
within spec, it's definitely not the pump. However, low pressure isn't
always due to a faulty pump. A pressure gauge is needed to check flow &
residual pressure, & will tell you if the check valves or regulator are
working properly. Many parts stores loan pressure gauges, so you don't have
to buy one. You can do electrical tests, but only after pressure tests. For
more info watch our "How to Check Fuel Pressure" video.
pay1t0: hi, after replacing the fuel pump in my 99 alero, the gas gauge won't work
no more do you any suggestions?
Airtex Pumps: Labor rates vary across the country so it's difficult to estimate the
average rate in your area. The time to change the fuel pump in your vehicle
is 1.8 hours. Maybe this will help in determining the amount to change the
fuel pump. Thanks for watching.
Airtex Pumps: Sorry, unable to post the video link. If yo go to our channel and search
for "How to Check Fuel Pressure," you'll see it. Thanks.
Airtex Pumps: Yes. This fuel pump fits 2000 – 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 3.4l. To verify the
correct fuel pump for your car you can visit our technical FuelPumpU
website. Thanks for watching!
Airtex Pumps: You should be able to check it yourself. Here's a link to our video on "How
to Check Fuel Pressure". It should help. You will need a fuel pressure
gauge, which you should be able to rent from one of your local auto parts
stores. Again, if you get stuck or need more help, don't hesitate to call
our tech line: 800-424-7839.
Filmaker25: Will fuel cleaners like lucas prolong the fuel pump?
Airtex Pumps: There are many things that can affect the starting & running of a vehicle.
The fuel system is one, but can also be in another area of the vehicle. The
first step to diagnose this issue would be a fuel pressure test. The spec
for your 2001 Olds Alero is 52-59 psi, Key on/Engine off. With this
information we can continue diagnosing the fuel system or focus on another
area of the vehicle. Might be easier to help you over the phone. Please
feel free to call our free tech line: 800-424-7839. Thanks!
Xavier Holland: You mean throttle body. There is no carburetor on any car after the 80s.
All vehicles went to EFI. What you are talking about is the throttle body.
If the pump engages but the vehicle will not send fuel into the block, keep
in mind there are about 4 major things in between the fuel pump and the
engine block. Fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail or fuel
injector rail, and the fuel injectors. This can be a difficult area to
diagnose and a mechanic will need to air test the line.
