raydeen2k: Heh, I remember Hard Drivin'. Drive to close to the barn and the cow goes
Chris Ouillette: I have the flash back
Grimace982: can you save game progress on the Genesis Portable?
jgfjgfify: Picked up Genesis console! Review: Looks cool. Great game list. Good
overall build quality on the unit(actually took it apart) and controllers.
Video emulation is good for the most part but composite-only holds it back.
Audio emulation is pretty decent(still sounds nice, but lacking from
originals) & mono-only holds it back. Games play great & proper speed.
Bland menu w/no options. Overall, pretty decent unit! But NEEDS
improvement. NOT worth web price of $60! Got mine for $39 at Family dollar.
cphacker95/The Hacker: do you guys happen to know where i could find the portable genesis at?
Ace9921: The hell with that! I'd take a Genesis Model 1 (NON-TMSS, thank you very
much) with a Mega EverDrive flash cartridge and an authentic copy of Virtua
Racing over any software emulation.
ILOVEVHS: Those Sonic games had hideous lag! I hope that problem doesn't happen with
jgfjgfify: I have this atgames Genesis console unit, and mine does *NOT* play with the
slowdown on Sonic 2, that theirs does in the video. Anyone know why that
is? U.S gamer BTW. My unit plays Sonic 2 fine with no slowdown.
chaozznl: I feel the Sega Genesis Portable, which has an official Sega licence is a
weird product in terms of legal stuff. It has 80 build in licenced games,
but also has that SD slot. That SD-slot has no other purpose then to allow
people to play downloaded ROMS. If Sega gives it's licence to such a
device, isn't what their saying actually: 'sure, you can download the roms
of our old games' ?
chaozznl: I you lived in NL it would have sold you mine :)
Stinger2578: Here in the US, DollarGeneral is selling the Portable Sega Genesis and the
Atari Flashback 4 for $25.00 today.
GamergyNL: In light of perfect emulation these remakes might not be your option. But I
think you should consider the price you pay for these Atgames devices.
They're dirt cheap, and still provide a fun experience.
1989gamemaster: I don't have a problem with a wireless Atari 2600 controller for Atari
Flashback 4, and there is a wireless Atari 2600 controller that has an
antenna on front. I was impressed with Sega Genesis Ultimate Portable Game
Player to play 80 built-in games on the go. 40 Sega Genesis games, and 40
arcade games to remind you. Though the emulation on 40 Genesis games were
90%, because of the low audio sound and music.
Ace9921: I can't tell you how much I HATE AtGames' Geniclones. I have one of their
older systems, the Genesis Arcade Motion Dual, and it is garbage. A lot of
games have graphical glitches, some crash, others don't work, and the audio
is UNBEARABLE! And it looks like the new Geniclones aren't any better in
regards to audio. It's still the same horrible sound since AtGames' first
Geniclones made in 2008 which were COMPLETE trash and had all sorts of
problems, even worse than the new ones.
chaozznl: They're on ebay, but you might end up overpaying. Can't find them anywhere
else. I have one eating dust here. :)
chaozznl: fine, although i must be honest. i had to open up the Genesis Portable to
fix one of the buttons, but is was an easy fix. d-pad and buttons are fine
blitzwing297: I found the portable Genesis at a locale Doller General. I love the thing
and the d-pad and buttons are nice an tight. There's nothing like playing
Street Fighter and Streets Of Rage 3 in the break room. I also picked up
the console version as a backup Genesis. That and to piss off a
chaozznl: On all the other webshops it seems to be Out of Stock. :(
Ace9921: Even then, no emulator or on-a-chip based hardware clones (i.e. hardware
clones, no software emulation used here) can match a MegaDrive with a
YM2612. They all sound like a MegaDrive with a YM3438, which I don't
recommend to anyone as the MegaDrive originally came with a YM2612, but due
to fabrication process mismatch while Sega tried to consolidate the
hardware, they switched to the YM3438, which doesn't quite sound the same
as the YM2612.
Eagle Creek: Never played those games but I can imagine it brings back memories.
Excellent you can buy those remakes these days! (especially when you're
able to play the original old games!)
cphacker95/The Hacker: only ebay so far? ok thanks anyways man.
chaozznl: It's mostly black, honestly... and retro.
WARPUDDY666: Sonic 2 sounds and looks slowed down due to poor emulation but cool it can
play the original carts.
chaozznl: I don't like the wireless IR controllers either, but you can consider it an
extra feature. Wired controllers work too on this machine.
jgfjgfify: Video emulation on the Genesis console is good for the most part and audio
emulation is pretty decent. What holds this unit back is composite only and
mono sound. Quality would take a step up automatically if only the output
was better, with something like true stereo HDMI. Atgames kinda screwed
themselves by cutting corners, but whats here is still pretty decent. Just
a shame as it could easily be better.
GamergyNL: It's great to relive your childhood memories with modern equipment. We love
juniorreyes46: Does the sega genesis works on saved games like sonic 3?
WebVMan: Sonic has slow audio and framerate according to your video. But at least
you can play the original carts which seem to run fine. As far as the
portable system goes, I wonder if a ROM of Sonic would run better than the
Ace9921: What's even more sad, though, is how in North America, we have what we know
as GOAC-based Geniclones (on-a-chip hardware clones), which are unlicensed,
yet are all superior in every aspect (except controls in some of the early
NES/MegaDrive 2-in-1 clones). The only decent software-emulation based
clones I've seen AtGames make are the Flashback 3 and Flashback 4 (I own
the Flashback 3 and while it's not perfect, it's MILES ahead of any of
AtGames' garbage Geniclones).
dangerc0w: Just one question. Is it COOL?
diosoth: IR wireless tech is outdated by well more than a decade, there's no reason
any console maker should use it beyond being incredibly cheap. Considering
the FB4 retails for $40 I think RF would have been warranted in the
production and manufacturing budget.
james anderson: I got shaq fu for $.50
PJo Logan: How good are the D-Pad and buttons of the Portable Genesis ?
