How To Adjust Your Mountain Bike Mechanical Disc Brakes. Pretty Easy!

What do you think about this video?

Alex Baum: Anyone ever told you that you sound almost exactly like Jason Sudekis? You do.

kingpolaris: My disc keeps getting slack aka no brakes mid ride. Is there any way to make it tighter so this doesn't happen. Aside from by hand

corey774: Great video, I just purchased a bike with mechanical disc brakes, I know it is a different ball game compared to hydraulics, but I was wondering if you would know what and where I should adjust the brakes, to increase the sensitivity - I have to grip almost full force to engage the brakes, I can't "stop on a dime" so to speak, 2014 Norco Storm, Thank you!

mrjohncraigjr: problem solved.. first adjustment of disc brakes ... not hard at all!

Oceannamc: Oh my goodness!! Thank you soooooo MUCH!!! I was making it way to hard! :) You just gave me the "EASY" button.

S. ÇAĞRI BOZKURT: thanks my problem solved :D

Richard Roylance: Thanks!

kwalalumpa: Thanks jonnyshop

Patrick Tobin: Thank You Johnny.

history8192: Thanks! Saved me a trip to the bike show.

sifu joel: These are actually my favourite set of brakes i've had. prefer them to my old hydraulics!

Lloyd Franklin: hi, great video. can you help me please. i have disc breaks on both wheels. the cable on the front break keeps snapping. am i doing something wrong?

Miguel Iniguez: My problem was wornout brake pads. I changed to hydraulic anyways, way better now!

renzo1540: i did that and the inside (adjustable) pad rubs...

Johnnysshop: @atalayapark Probably so. What kind are they?

Scott Kopczynski: Great vid fixed my problem thank you so much

hemet92544: 1:50 and 2:14 was that bare fingers touching the surface of the discs? isn't that taught in how not to commit brake failure 101? oops

Lucas Martin: how do you fix it if it is slightly bent?

Sahil Chauhan: @sicklinesproduction No, that's only for hydraulics...

Johnnysshop: Thanks for watching!

zippy364: i have had my mountain bike over a year now and few weeks after i had it i noticed that the brakes were not working that well so i sent it back to the shop to get fixed and when it came out of the shop they were fixed but only for a few days i have done this over and over again but now my garentee is up and i have to judge when i am goin to stop on the road and suggestions ? thanks

Johnnysshop: First thing I would do is make sure the rotors are super clean by cleaning them with brake cleaner. Make sure the pads are clean as well. You may want to scuff the pads up a little with some sandpaper as well. If that doesn't work you may need to look at a different brake pad for them. Some pads just aren't that great.

Johnnysshop: Have you adjusted the cable also?

Johnnysshop: Have you adjusted the cable also?

Johnnysshop: @saker110 Thanks, glad I could help!

PanHustej: awesome tip! thanks!!

heavybubble41: Excellent! This is exactly what I needed!

Johnnysshop: @hemet92544 LOL.. Yes, brake cleaner is your friend.

GforceGT04: mechanical disc brakes on my bike and have same problems with the front brake. with the loud squeaky noise and vibrations..is this normal or do i have to replace pads

Hugo Viegas: Thank you. This was very helpful.

Petegrin1: hey, i just got a pretty cheap mountain bike that came with a front disc brake and i discoverd that it don't really do eny different when i brakes with it (what's ever it's called). so my question is:is that normal? sry for my bad english but i hope you guys can understand what im saying(the point)

Sahil Chauhan: I have got an older version of the BB5. (Different colour). How come yours is so much snapier than mine? I have changed cables and pads, perfectly adjusted but still not as snappy. Is it the lever? Do I need to change the spring tension?

Johnnysshop: Thanks. Yes, this is an old video and I have a much better setup now.

Johnnysshop: @ismaelcc It sure is!

Johnnysshop: @wandererviv Thanks for watching, glad I could help!

Johnnysshop: @sahilcc7 Might need to stretch the spring out a bit or get a new spring. The older ones aren't quit as snappy but should be somewhat close.

Christopher Tan: Mine doesn't have a dial. Instead it has an alen key hole which I think I'm supposed to tighten right?

Miguel Iniguez: No, not at all, I was upgrading anyways since the mechanical brakes were not keeping up to the type of routes I usually go to. They worked fine after changing the worn out pads, but, hydraulics are hydraulics dude.

Johnnysshop: Thanks and glad I could help!

Joshhy: will that stop any noise the brake make when u apply the brakes??

Ahmed Hawary Keko: Let me just ask something here .. Only 1 pad moves ?? is this normal ?? thanks :)

Johnnysshop: Thanks. I'll try to get one up eventually!

mick parmenter: What a fantastic video, solved my problem, thanks very much!!!

hemet92544: make that 2:10

superfestiva: Hi: I did this to adjust both mechanical disc brakes on my Cannondale SL5 2012. Both were very low and now they are very nice at the brake levers. My problem is the rear brake feels solid but it just wont brake at all. The calipers are aligned, they move and all, they touch the disc brake properly, but the rear brakes don't do anything at all.. What should I do now?

zephyrprime: Good info but you will need a camera with a macro in order to avoid blur on close in shots.

Johnnysshop: Thanks for watching!

Grayson Richards: I'm having problems keeping the front brake tight and not rubbing

Johnnysshop: @sicklinesproduction No, I'm not incorrect. These are not hydraulic brakes.

Johnnysshop: @sahilcc7 It could be the cable or the spring on the brakes (assuming you have this same style brakes). I would look at the spring first since you said it works fine without the pads.
