BMW E39 Changing The Key Battery - Part 1

What do you think about this video?

M3taCaf3: Hey everyone, check what batteries your key is using BEFORE ordering those CR2016 batteries, my key actually uses CR1220 batteries (2 for one key!).

Victor Rodriguez: Hi Dave !! Great Instructional video,I have the same key  remote for an e46 1999 Since a few days  It all the times locks without flashing the lights or sound and  it wont unlock and the alarm doesn´t activates. sometimes it comes all to normal and then again the issue :s do you think it could be that the battery needs replacement. Thanks

Mark Howard: My E39 2000 540i has the diamond shaped battery. It was designed with screwing the owner in mind. The whole dang key is 'disposable' when the battery dies. I am in the process of breaking it open, mangling the contacts, and attempting to introduce a new Panasonic battery. Wish me luck.

metroman1991: If you have 2 smaller ones it is 2 cr1220.

Ibrahim Beelut: so what size battery should i be buying if i have 1997 528i

Dennis The menace: Hello Dave, thank you for the instructional video!Would theese steps work for a 1997 BMW E38 as well?I only have the two battery keys, not the master key, and the batteries have gone dead, leaving me with a unstartable car ;-)

Killian665: For you guys with the diamond key. You can't replace the battery. It uses a rechargeable cell that recharges while it is in the ignition. There's no way to replace it if it has gone bad, you have to get a new key.

Dewaltd Gagiano: i replaced my battery for my key (bmw 525 1998) but i had the battery out for a while, when i try to re-sync the key with the car, it doesnt work, i have tried all day, with no luck. every time i complete the process, and leave the bottom button, the red light just flashes for a while, but it still doesnt lock or unlock. please reply as soon as you can with some ideas that could work. thank you

Joe Sixmore Lagswing: Thanks for this great tutorial, esp. part 2. Q: any chance space-wise CR2032 sticks also without breaking clamps?

arwenvalodifellatio: hi can i use defrent key instead my old key i try to change my car REMOTE KEY

Pat Pat.: Great video really helped me out with my e46! Nice to see an instructional vid by a brit too, trawled through loads of yank ones which didnt help at all. Top walkthrough!

Gio Ferrigno: @DebenDave I have a 2002 E39 with the diamond shaped key. can you post something for that or direct me to a known source. i've been looking everywhere.

Repair Fanatic: Make more video only on your BMW

Yeroon: Thanks for sharing! :-)

Koxz1: Hey please help me. Which battery model number do my remote key for my BMW 523i 96 2.5 automatic gear need?

DebenDave: @TravisBurrell is it diamond shaped?

TravisBurrell: umm.. I have an E39 M5. My key looks nothing like that? It doesnt have an opening like that, and there is no light anywhere?

DebenDave: @DebenDave really!!!

John B. Irvin: Being in America. That make you buy a new key. No battery replacement. I just paid $250 US. If the Germany can steal money from the US they will. I don't think my next purchase will be a BMW.

syahya01: Excellent set of instructions. Can you do one for a BMW 525i, year 2003 model key, too? (US model, just in case European models have a different kind of key). Thanks.
