Miguel Barriga: 3.1 and 3.4 are rare here in Coachella valley u just see Honda's and
Morgan Freeman: bra's cause rust and paint fading
Vacationtime247: @curley920 Lawn will get mowed, eventually. VT247
dkhill27: I have a 00 grand am gt and it blew the lower intake manifold gasket at
149k miles. It was pretty easy to do. Put a fle-pro gasket on it and some
silicone on it. Im at 159k and no problems. My question is how long did it
take you to swap motors? And would you know how long it would take to do a
tranny swap? Starting to slip under hard acceleration only. Nice video btw
Joey Nash: how did u do ur cold air intake???
bteeuwen: this is the 24v 3.4L right? haven't heard the greatest thing about them but
there is a lot on the road though.
brad ornat: nice work
ImpressingtheCritic: Hey Lee, are you by any chance, a Jack Ass? Or are you just short with a
homes24: Green antifreeze? has that been converted from Dexcool?
Vacationtime247: @forestcamper Guess that all depends on where you get the new engine from.
You might get everything if you get it from a salvage yard. If you get a
new engine from Autozone or otherwise you might just get the block and
Vacationtime247: @MrRichierich1990 If your car is bubbling out violently, like you hear a
pshhh with steam coming out or the overflow tank is bouncing and gurgling
there is a problem. Two main culprits would be the thermostat stuck closed
or the water pump isn't pumping water through the sytem. What does the temp
gauge read? If it's reading high, check the pump or thermostat. VT247
curley920: Did the lawn get done?
Vacationtime247: I only unhooked what was necessary to get the engine out. The old engine
that was in there had a knock. Got another engine but things had been taken
off or were no good. So I combined what I could to make one good engine.
When I say I had to 'get' something it usually meant it was swapped from
the old engine. Gaskets and a few parts were however bought new. True,
there is a bolt that goes the other way holding on the transmission. This
method works for me. VT247
Forest Camper: @Vacationtime247 Thanks for responding, I recently bought a lemon and the
previous owner is being extremely uncooperative. I'm evaluating my options
for damage control.
Vacationtime247: @jfletcherwilliams If it's not 12 volts at the brake light switch, follow
the wiring diagram back. Or, just wire in a 12 volt power source. Make sure
too that you have ground! VT247
Mike Allmon: how would that be considered a cold air intake when you are making it
breathe hot under hood air like that?
Vacationtime247: @shawnwhite00 I cut the rubber line for the fuel. Put in a short piece of
steel line that was flared out on both ends. Double clamped it at both
sides for both the in line and the return line for the fuel. Those quick
disconnects suck! There was no way mine was coming loose. VT247
Vacationtime247: Not exactly. All that work to make some $. Just so happens that it was an
Alero. I'll buy any car if it's cheap and can make some money on. Today's
project, breath new life into a '99 Durango I got for $500. VT247
81TurboTA: Hey I need HELP................... I am going to pull the engine from a
2000 Grand Am GT to put in a 2001 Grand Am GT both are a 3400s' Did you
pull from top or bottom?
Vacationtime247: There are bolts holding on the transmission that you can easily see from
the front of the car. There are one or two (can't remember exactly now)
that go the opposite direction in the back. You'll need a long extension to
take 'em out. Also, don't forget the torque converter bolts as well. The
rest is pretty straight forward. VT247
Casey Rodriguez: After market intakes lose power. They sound good, but lose power. It took a
cold air intake extended 2 ft in front of the car with 70mph winds to see
gains otherwise it's just a loss of power.
Adriel Lozano: Heyy anyone who knows how to remove the engine on a grand am email me plss
crosstimbers2: Can't you make your videos without the lawn mower?
Vacationtime247: Way to much work. It can be done, but you're going to have an enormous
amount of time and money into a project like that. Much simpler to just get
a Pontiac GTP or Buick Regal GS. VT247
Vacationtime247: If it's coming out the top, then all those things you mentioned earlier
don't need removed. Be careful of the radiator not to knock a hole in it by
accident. From what you're saying, it should be ready to pull by hooking up
the chains and lift. You going to put the heads on after dropping the block
back in? VT247
onenikkione: wish i had a neighbor that can swap engines (and more). a 1999 anycar where
i live would be all rust, not just on the hood. : (
Robert Shaw Jr.: How long would you say it would take to take the 3.4 oft and install the
new one. I have a grand pretty much the same
John1013: Did you have to reprogram the ECM (engine's computer)?
Vacationtime247: @riviera97sc For extra insurance, I added a layer of silicone to both sides
of the lower intake manifold gasket set. Wanted to make sure it would never
develop the leak around the water jackets. : ) No leaks, it's been 6 months
and still drives great! VT247
Xavier Holland: Lol random duck sexy stare. :P Dude, nice swap. I too have the v6. Plan to
keep it for as long as it will move, then pull a block, and move it some
Nick Ritter: how did you seperate the transmission from the engine im dong the same
thing right not and i cant find the access plate like most cars have can
you please respond ? thanks
midgetmayo: @Vacationtime247 Dexcool eats the gaskets anyway..
jfletcherwilliams: I have a 99 Alero w/3400 too. What is the purpose of modding the air
intake? And when looking in salvage yards for an engine replacement, how do
you know you aren't getting one that's also got a bad intake and/or head
gasket? Thirdly, do you have any knowledge about why brake lights won't
work even after bulb change, fuse, and brake pedal switch change?
Vacationtime247: You can do this swap in less than a day. If you stay at it and 2 if you
take your time. This is if you already have everything you need to do the
swap. It's really pretty easy and straight forward. VT247
John Doe: @dillonmuhman a GTP L67 motor would have made that Alero one VERY
eddie davis: Is the 3.1 and the 3.4 capable for engine swap
Vacationtime247: @homes24 Don't like the Dexcool, it's more expensive and I don't think it
works as well. Good ol' antifreeze works for me = D VT247
Mike Thexton: Hey, chiltons says to remove these before removing the engine Stabilizer
shaft links from the lower control arms Tie rod ends from the steering
knuckles Lower ball joints from the steering knuckles Cooler lines and
bracket from the transaxle Is that necessary, or can I skip these steps?
Robert Shaw Jr.: @Robertksinmi1992 Grand am
81TurboTA: Did you remove the starter to access the flywheel? And did you manually
turn the engine to get to the bolts?
Casey Rodriguez: Btw dexcool lubricates gaskets. The gaskets would go bad before you saw any
damage from dexcool, it's the combination of dexcool and green anti freeze
that can be harmful.
Vacationtime247: Swapping from a 3.1 to 3.4 can be done, but it's not a direct bolt in.
Several of the sensors have different connectors, making the computer work
with the different engine and swapping out motor mounts. It's possible, but
I'd not want to do it. VT247
Bobby Barger: For anyone who is curious, Fel-Pro offers an updated gasket that is made of
metal and will not fail. I'm talking about the lower intake manifold
gaskets. The part number is MS98003T
Vacationtime247: You can take out the starter and get to the flywheel bolts I believe. Also,
to get to the flywheel bolts, you can turn the engine over with the large
crankshaft bolt in the center of the harmonic balancer. VT247
Timmaculate83: Great job hope you make good money for it.I know how it is getting burnt
out on flipping these cars but what choice is there but to keep going.
Vacationtime247: I'll bet the whole front subframe comes out in their instructions. In some
applications this is the best way to do it. Drop the subframe, lift the
body and you're at the motor. From there it's just removing the engine /
trans bolts, motor mounts, & torque converter bolts. But yes, all those
things mentioned need removed before dropping the cradle. VT247
Alejandro rodriguez: Hi is this engine swap similar or more difficult Nissan 350z, i need to
replace the engine
Dillon Bittner: you shoulda put a bigger engine in...
Vacationtime247: @782Matty The idle control valve costs about $20. Typically you can just
take them out and clean the carbon off. If you're having idle problems
check for vacuum leaks. Spray water on different parts of the engine and
vacuum hoses, if it idles down, theres were the problem is. VT247
tezgaa84: Nice job, $1300-$1400 invested but still some money to be made.
