Titan Lee: Awesome.A video on how to repair a broken Flywheel Key.Quote from the video:"I think.......I don't know"."I'm hoping this is what this is suppose to look like" (the "this" is the Key that is the purpose of this video)"I don't know".We'll put it in and hopefully it will work".My side is hurting from laughing.
tonyswhirl: Am I to understand even a couple degree shear in the key will cause kickback? thanks in advance
beto Fountains: Please help me out I got one of these engines on my go kart and I try pulling it and it goes way slower then usually and turns off after I let go of the gas and sometimes when I try starting it jumps forward and turns off ?
Mathew Kyser: What's the point of a video like this if you skip the parts I need to see
Alex S: yep part # tecumseh 611004
Craig Allison: I don't recall a plastic piece around the crank on mine. I'm going to fab my own key, since I'm in BFE, but for others who can wait for parts, could you post a link for the key? I didn't find it on ebay.
Alex S: Thanks!
Alex S: There should not be any play. The nut must be torqued down very tight, if there is play, then the key will shear once you start the engine. Check your oil level, sounds like its dry. Also check for any mouse nest/bedding under the covers.
tom Gray: I have a 6.5 hp self propelled Toro lawn mower that runs for while then dies. The engine gets very hot. Took the flywheel off and the key looks OK. The slot in the flywheel looks a little crooked. When reassembled there is play in the flywheel when the blade is held steady. Do I have to replace the flywheel?
Alex S: @imkhaleel I dont know how i missed this comment, but anyways it probably needs a carburetor cleaning.
Alex S: @mg066is Your welcome, glad it helped.
Marc G: Dude, You rock. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
imkhaleel: could you help me out? my Toro GT start very week all the sudden and it hard to hear it running very quite I dont know what could be the problem?
Alex S: @123lawncare if you can then I would say check the key as a # 1 problem. Then check to make sure you don't prime/choke the engine too much otherwise too much gas causes the piston to lock up a little bit, then the spark fires and the engine runs like normal. some people complain that gas slowly leaks into their cylinder especially when your gas tank is mounted higher than the carburetor and causes this locking/misfiring symptom. Anyways flywheel key is 90% likely.
123lawncare: @MultiKhaz machine runs smooth strong and starts in one pull but once in awhile when i pull the cord it jerks one me..it pulls the cord right out of my hands with brute force
Alex S: @123lawncare Well if the machine runs rough or it sounds like it is misfiring or doesn't start at all then the key might be slightly or totally sheered. Most likely I would check the flywheel key by taking the engine cover off and removing the flywheel bolt, if the notches on the shaft and the flywheel are not in the same spot then the key is sheered. Check the key and if you have trouble let me know.
123lawncare: nice video...i have one question...i have a commercial mower walk behind with a 12.5hp kawasaki engine....sometimes once in a while when i pull start it it kinda yanks the cord right out of my hands....and it really hurts when it happens...can this be the flywheel key?
