Scotty Kilmer: How To Tell If Your Head Gasket Is Blown
krimes213: how much would it take to repair??
INternatiol Beethoven: I HAVE A 1995 CADILLAC DEVILLE CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY
AN ENGINE FOR IT THAT IS GUARANTEED TO WORK? PLEASE HELP +Scotty Kilmer
asustech007: Hey Scotty got those head gaskets replaced on that Grand Prix, had to take
the heads in though, one of them was warped a little so they both got
resurfaced and checked for cracks. It's been nearly a week now and the
owner says the car has no problems. So it appears that perhaps one of those
heads were actually causing the problem.... where I thought it might have
been the head gasket? Either way, sometimes it's hard to tell with the
problem this thing had, it was only getting very little air past that
gasket, but it doesn't take much anyway to pump a cooling system up with
air. Thanks for your help!
Flynn White: Wait a minute. But what if you have a cracked head? Wouldn't you also see
the same results?
than217: I was having a hard time trying to get air to suck up into the tube. But
the big fans on the radiator? weren't spinning. What would that mean.
movieguy73: why does the tester have two stages?
asustech007: 3.8 liter engine in a 2006 Grand Prix, engine with 180,000 + miles was
overheated once from a water pump locking up. The guy who had it changed
the pump and belt but the car looses coolant slowly with no signs of leaks
in the oil or on the ground, or from the heater core. Constant bubbles come
up through the coolant reservoir after engine gets good and hot, a few
bubbles when the engine is fairly cool, and no bubbles when the engine is
cold. Wouldn't you say he had a bad head gasket... like a very slight crack
that gets worse the hotter the engine gets?
Ira Friedman: Hey scotty just curious what are some things thay can cause a headgasket to
blow? I hear that constantly flooring your car and pushing your engine will
TotallyCoolNails: What if the test was done several times with different results?
asustech007: Scotty, is the replacement head bolts for a 06 Pontiac grand prix 3.8 liter
engine, "torque to yield" bolts? It has cast iron heads, and from what I've
understood the TTY bolts stretch when they get torqued down. Would I be
screwing up if these bolts are used on this engine? According to parts
store they only list one kind of head bolt for this engine but never asked
if it had cast iron heads on it or not. The torque specs seem odd, it looks
like the specs are for aluminum heads. I can't seem to get a definitive
answer from those I've called about it, so I don't know what the deal
john imburgia: Scotty,
Will that work on a Cummins diesel?
moos209: Cant you also do a compression test
Victor Sanchez: When I drive for about 10 minutes my car smells like smoke and when I pop
my hood, white smoke comes up from the engine. It smells somewhat like oil.
I don't know what it is, any suggestions.? I drive a 1998 eclipse gs
Arioch67: thanks gee i hope thats not the problem
adem nacakli: very nice thanks
than217: They told me either my head gasket was blown or that my water pump was
leaking. Would this test in the video above get a false positive for a
'blown head gasket' if the water pump was broken?
mjobermeyer09: How can you tell if a lower intake manifold gasket is blown on a GM 3400
KavaniLoyan: My car is showing signs of a blown head gasket (using a lot of coolant,
white smoke out tail pipes that smells like coolant) so I did this test and
it didn't yield any results (test liquid didn't change color at all).
Holly Weimer: I have a 96 Celica (automatic) that accelerates very slowly. I know these
cars have a reputation for being slow, but I get passed up like I'm a snail
on the freeway. It also runs rough and loudly, and shakes a lot at a stop.
A lot of white smoke comes out of the tailpipe when I start it, but goes
away when driving. Does that sound like a head gasket issue? It has never
Matt Orourke: Where are you located?
Dylan Ewing: Hey Scotty, what if my vehicle doesn't have a radiator cap? Can I do this
test with the coolant reservoir since I don't have a radiator cap?
Reid Moore: I know this is totally off topic but, if Dr. McCoy on the ORIGINAL Star
Trek wasn't a southerner, Scotty Kilmer would be a dead ringer for playing
Dylan Johnson: 1997 Mitsubishi eclipse, only starts smoking after about 30 minutes of
driving. Its not constant smoke, only when I accelerate. It goes away after
I get into 2nd or 3rd gear. Any ideas on what it is? Thanks
Happy Harry: I've seen these testers before with only one chamber. Any reason why there
are 2 chambers for the blue liquid on this one? Thanks.
lazyjames 15: Why do it from the rad? you can do it from the coolant reservoir as well.
Saves mucking around sucking out coolant.
hector olivare: Scotty my 92 accord is blowing a cloud of white smoke I mean a big cloud,
it makes a little squeaky noise by the distributor. is that what a blown
head gasket sound?
koreyishoss: this guy is high as freak
anthem11212: when I'm driving down the road or come to a stop light my car will just
die....also I have white smoke coming from the front of the car. What is
John Robinson: Hey scotty, my transmission slips occasionally and my mechanic said I had a
blown head gasket so I paid 800 dollars to have it fixed. Does this sound
like a good estimate to you?
xxkillin3mxx: Where can i get one of those turkey things to suck up the coolant! didnt
understand the name
ipdjbt: Can this test be performed using the coolant expansion tank instead of the
Kenny Powers: Would you use K-seal as a solution to fix the head head gasket?
Or strip the engine down and fix it properly?
Francis V: I did this test 3 times for about 5 minutes each and the fluid stayed blue
each time, but there was a decent amount of oil in the radiator when I
siphoned some of the coolant for the test. Should I be worried/perform
another test? The car was a 1991 Mazda Miata.
cornell Coogler: Hello Scotty i have a 94 firebird.and white smoke only comes from the
pipes. When its at high RPMs. And drives fine when under 30 or 40 and the
idle is high
Joe Shook: Scotty if you have time, I'm not sure just how many dozens videos I've
watched ,but my sons 94ford explorer 4.0 would not start ,it has spark,
fuel presure good, plenty of gas, changed every thinkable part, then took
to Mechanic he changed fuel filter it ran for one day, began stalling then
nothing again, now stopped won't start ,sprayed ether in motor, it went big
pow and scared me, so again took it back to mechanic he says he sees
antifreeze on spark plugs, I ask him if oil was milk colored, he said he
did not look,? so I did, and oil looks clear, i'm thinking the mechanic
just does not know, he said it has (internal engine damage) and needs a
motor? if you see antifreeze on plugs wouldnt the oil be mixed with water
on stick an be white.?
David Goodrich: I have a 2002 nissan sentra spec v. Changed my spark plugs then other day
and noticed oil leaked into one of the ports and was in the boot and on
plug. I also noticed oil buildup around the head when I turned car off. Im
guessing head gasket is bad? Am I right?
Hector Pastor: HELP! i have a 1995 Chevrolet camaro. I've had my engine re-build about a
year ago and now every time i start my car, smoke comes out from the
exhaust, i don't know if its blue or white (i'm colorblind). But, It goes
away once i am on the road . It`s also very noisy and when its in neutral
or in park the car goes to 1500 - 2000 rpm. also, when i change gears the
cars kinda kicks with a loud noise. what can it be?
Jorge Perez: Hi Scotty I just buy a Mazda CX7 2.3L TURBO Charge and I need to know if I
did a good deal if this suv are good or not. and also if is ok to use 87
gasoline or 91 like the book said
Cody Ptolemy: So I have a 1990 2200 celica gt and we over heated it once and now when we
turn it over a huge amount of water fly's out of the rad cap and the
thermostat so as soon as we attempt to turn over its like it builts instant
pressure any thoughts?
squibblesthehusky: i just replaced a head gasket in a 99 ford escort and its producing white
smoke, what should i do?
Nate LeDuc: I don't think this is 100%. A cracked block would do the same.
mark steagall: why buy this test kit,if you have bubbles blowing fluid out the radiator
overflow tube ,then you have a blown head gasket
sanBastian123: HI Scotty, I had an overheating engine this weekend. The cap on overflow
jug opened. But after pouring coolant and closing jub, a creamy rusty
orange yellow gunk came out on the radiator . No oil but rusty butter.
Is this a bad sign? I never had to top my coolant. The car is old over
228 K miles. Anything to watch over?
Richard Rembao: I got a 97 honda accord and its heats up within 25mins. I got it a new
water pump, new radiator, a thermostat, the fan is stright so it should be
less heating up but still does and everytime I got to put water. it dont
throw it. but ends up missin.help?
Tim Chaplin: My ford ranger 2.3 94' has blown head gasket. my catalytic converter is bad
so im gonna also swap the entire exhaust system. quick question: the air
intake has alot of egr system...the air cleaner has connection to the
exhaust. i want to install a cold air intake and a new exhaust system, do
you think i could do that without the egr connections? im sure your
familiar with the 94' 2.3 and all its egr connections. I am worried about
the installing all that stuff neglecting the egr system and confusing my
computer? perhaps i can bypass the egr electrical system? any suggestions
and help would be greatly apprectiated sir.
Charles K. Gearlds: scotty thx for all ur help just recently my son was driving from his
description sounded like alternator or belt broke however I went to
investigate and it started fine no batt light for first few mins idles
perfect but when put in drive it sputter worse than any car I ever saw ??
is this a cam sensor?
Joshua Vozda: if your exhaust is kicking out white smoke, does that you have a blown head
