2009-2010 F-150 WITH 4.6L 3V, 2005-2010 F150 WITH 5.4L 3V,2005-2010 MUSTANG
WITH 4,6L 3V, 2005-2010 F250, F350 WITH 5.4L3V, 2006-2010
EXPLORER/MOUNTAINEER WITH 4.6L 3V ENGINE, 2007-2010 SPORT TRAC WITH 4.6L 3V
ENGINE, AND 2005-2011 EXPEDITIONS AND NAVIGATORS WITH 5.4L 3V ENGINES. SOME
CUSTOMERS MAY BE CONCERNED WITH TICK/RATTLE NOISES FROM THE VARIABLE CAM
TIMING (VCT) ON LIGHT TIP-IN ACCEL BETWEEN 800-1200 RPM. THIS CONDITION MAY
BE MOST NOTICEABLE OPERATING VEHICLE IN CONFINED AREAS SUCH AS A
DRIVE-THRU. THE NOISE IS ELIMINATED WHEN VCT SOLENOIDS ARE UNPLUGGED. THIS
CONDITION SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ENGINE. DO
NOT ATTEMPT ENGINE REPAIRS TO CHANGE THIS NORMAL CONDITION. THIS CONDITION
DOES NOT AFFECT PERFORMANCE OR DURABILITY OF THE ENGINE.
UBBERTANKER: the 3v ones dont pop plugs thats a 2v thing the 3v its impossible to get
the plugs out without breaking them
rumerboyz: how many miles were on your truck when you replaced the motor? I have a
2005 F250 5.4 with 40,000 miles. Should I be worried? I change the oil
every 5000 miles like the book says. Thanks for any info

kennedyjohn: these motors are the crapiest motors i want ford to give me a new truck ive
already replaced one 5.4 motor in my 06 and its sounds like it is about to
go again but i dont really care cause i have a 100,000 mile warranty on
this new motor and it only has about 30,000....and yeah the ticking is the
cam phasers or sometimes it can be the valves when you first start the
truck over untill they settle
biffula: Thats the sound they make right before they throw a spark plug.
rondotrailer: I know what you mean. Actually it's the noisy fuel injection. This motor is
known for being noisy.
TheTerminator310: Yeah, I agree with lizard2006. That engine does not sound normal. The cam
phasers are going bad in that motor. It's time for them to be replaced.

TahoeBilly2007: Mine sounds like a Singer sewing machine at 172K. I used Marvels for a few
oil cycles using full synthetic around 100K. I think the Marvels really
cleaned things up now I run full synth every 10K.
Richard Bonillas: I have an 05 F150 Crew Cab 5.4L 3V, it is still running great and strong
and the truck has 188,040. This is damn good engine ever I have so I always
take care of it to maintain routine every 3,000 miles for oil change
Motorcraft 5W20 and Motorcraft oil filter no problem at all since I bought
it. I have noticed there are many 5.4L are crap because they don't take
care of these engines.
lizard2006: @rondotrailer no it is not. That is clearly the cam phaser... 1100 dollars
a side. the injector does not make that noise.
tyu ytfgh: my dads 2001 ford f150 with the same engine has 250,000 miles and still
mifan93: i think its the lifters, all of the 3v 5.4 sound the same
Derrik Nikkel: Mine is a 05 5.4 v3 with 138000 km and same old crap I have seen so many
others with same problems
1977SVTLightning: More like terrible design ..That would be the cam phasers making all the
noise in conjunction with the fuel injectors.
DYAC: My friend's business did extremely well with adwords. He basically pay google to put his promotion ads on varies websites and the conversion rate is really high. I guess it helps since he sells gag/prank gifts and his ads get display on funny autocorrect websites. He wouldn't tell me the exact amount, but I'm estimating it is near the mid 6-figure salary. No risk no rewards I guess.
